Some Northerners Want Sambo to be Disloyal to Jonathan Like Atiku-ACF Chief
The Northern apex socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), at the weekend stated that Vice-President Namadi Sambo remains the leader of the North.
The vice chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees (BoT), Ladan Shuni, stated this during an interactive session with reporters in Kaduna.
Shuni said that the recent statement credited to elder statesman and former Minister of Agriculture, Sani Zango Daura, that Sambo is a powerless politician, who could not lead the North was one of the indications that the region wanted a disloyal vice president.
The media had reported that some powerful Northerners have perfected plans to replace Sambo.
Shuni, a former ambassador to Morocco during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’ s administration, recalled the era of Obasanjo and his vice president, Atiku Abubakar when the duo were always at loggerheads over national issues, saying that such political scenario would not augur well for the development of the country.
The former envoy and stalwart of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Sambo should be commended for being loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan over the years, adding that the Vice President had within a period of time carried out developmental projects in the North.
He said: “It is a pity that Daura is not very much aware of the various contributions Sambo has made to this country. May be people are expecting Sambo to do what the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar did under the administration of former President Obasanjo by being always at loggerheads with his boss.
“I don’t know, may be Daura wanted Sambo to be briefing him on whatever he has done in terms of bringing peace and economic development to the North.”
Noting that “Sambo as the leader of the North has contributed a lot to the North,” the ACF chieftain said that he was aware of the roles played by the Vice President in bringing peace to the embattled region.
His words: “Sambo is the leader of the North, he is a leader of the PDP, he believes in the party. You don’t expect him to descend so low to campaign in his ward during elections, it is not his responsibility. It is his responsibility to campaign for the party in the entire country. So, it is not the fault of the Vice President if he did not deliver his ward at local government election, it is the fault of his supporters. After all he delivered the entire state to PDP.”
