Prominent Borno Politicians Behind Boko Haram White Paper Reveals

A White Paper on the Boko Haram insurgency now with the Federal Government has fingered prominent Borno politicians as the brains behind Boko Haram which they created just before the 2003 election as a means of snatching political power in the state.

The White Paper which has been published in the Federal Government's official gazette reveals that the origin of Boko Haram can be traced to the private militias under nomenclatures such as ECOMOG and Yan Kalare.

In fact, one prominent Borno politician had a certain commissioner in the state cabinet who was suspected of being a nominee of the sect or one of its controllers at a time which it was friendly with the state government. The commissioner was eventually killed.

The report reveals that these groups formed by politicians where armed and gradually began growing their influence to neighboring states of Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe.

The White Paper recommended that the politicians behind these groups be prosecuted. By virtue of the Freedom of Information Act, the White Paper, which was submitted to government in 2011 is declassified and can be made available to the citizenry via the media
