Anambra Gov, donates N9 Billlion to schools, monarchs get jeeps

Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Monday handed over N10m cheques to each of the 253 public secondary schools in the state.

The governor, who gave the cheques at the Women Development Centre, Awka, the state capital, also gave out 200 Sport Utility Vehicles to traditional rulers in the state.
He told the gathering at the occasion that he had just started a revolution in the state that would soon be felt in all sectors of the state.
He said the state government had decided to buy and give to every secondary school student in the state a copy of Chinua Achebe’s Trilogy containing his classic novels, Things Fall Apart, Arrow of God and No Longer at Ease, as well as a copy of his last book, There was a country.
The governor said the N10m for each of the secondary schools was just the first phase of the rehabilitation programme the government planned for public secondary schools after it had rehabilitated mission schools it handed over back to the churches.
The governor also said that the state executive council had approved the sum of N6.5bn for the rehabilitation of schools in the state.
The governor said the donation of SUVs to traditional rulers was in recognition of their pivotal roles and to keep them in relative comfort.
Chairman, Anambra Traditional Rulers Council, Obi Alfred Achebe, said what Anambra was witnessing under Obi had no precedence.
