More
than 10,000 women from all over the country on Thursday converged at
the Eagle Square, Abuja, to celebrate President Goodluck Jonathan for
his contribution to women empowerment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the women came from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT for the occasion.
The event, organised by the National
Council for Women Society, is also to celebrate Nigerian women from
different social and economic backgrounds for their contributions to the
nation’s development.
NAN reports that there was heavy
presence of security operatives in and around the venue of the event to
ensure hitch-free celebration.
All roads leading to the Eagle Square have been closed and traffic diverted, while the Federal Secretariat has also been shut.
